Development and Expansion of STEP

  • Inaugurated in September 2007, STEP was the first outreach learning module for primary students on climate change to be endorsed by the Hong Kong SAR Education Bureau
  • From 2007 to 2013, over 70,000 students from more than 100 primary schools participated in STEP
  • Over the years, the contents of STEP have been advanced and expanded to include the concept of sustainability and the Ecological Footprint, in response to the popularization of climate change issues and given the fact that many students now possess basic knowledge on the subject.

Selected Achievements of the STEP Programme

  • Evaluation results showed that STEP improved “climate literacy” among students – both in knowledge and changes in attitude
  • Students showed overwhelming appreciation of the STEP programme
